Yamaha Revstar – find your other half

Yamaha Revstar is a series of electric guitars created for guitarists seeking a distinctive style, versatile sound, and modern playability. The new generation of Revstar offers three tiers of models, various pickup configurations, advanced switching options, and attractive finishes inspired by racing culture.

Revstar is designed as an instrument that adapts to your sound and personality. Whether you are looking for a powerful rock character, dynamic blues response, clear single-coil tones, or a more aggressive, modern sound, the series offers a wide range of options for different playing styles.

The new generation of Revstar

The first generation of Revstar was introduced in 2015 as Yamaha's first new series of electric guitars in over a decade. In 2022, Yamaha unveiled a completely revamped line that brings fresh design, improved construction, greater tonal adaptability, and a more modern playing feel.

The new Revstar series retains the distinctive character of the original while upgrading all key elements: resonance, weight, balance, electronics, and visual identity. The result is a guitar that feels classic but plays and responds in a modern way.

Music and motors

The design of the Revstar series is inspired by café racer motorcycles – minimalist, powerful, and personally customized machines that reflect the character of their owner. The same philosophy is embodied in Revstar: a refined shape, strong identity, and a sense of individuality.

The finishes, lines, and details of the series evoke the world of speed, garage culture, and timeless design. Revstar is not just an instrument, but also a visual statement – a guitar for players who want their sound and appearance to speak with equal power.

Modern. Classic.

Revstar combines Japanese innovation and traditional craftsmanship. Modern construction solutions enhance playability, tonal diversity, and resonance, while the shape draws inspiration from classic Yamaha electric guitars from the sixties.

This combination creates an instrument that does not rely solely on nostalgia but enhances it with today's needs of musicians. Revstar offers a sense of familiarity while opening up space for new sounds, new styles, and modern creation.

Hanko mark – Yamaha's seal of trust

Each Revstar guitar features a special Hanko mark, inspired by the Japanese tradition of personal seals. In Revstar models, it serves as Yamaha's approval mark and a symbol of quality.

Element and Standard models carry the Revstar Hanko mark, while Professional models highlight the craftsmanship made in Japan. This detail gives the series additional identity and connects the instrument to Yamaha's Japanese origin.

Acoustic Design – sound shaped by analysis

Yamaha employs an Acoustic Design process in the development of Revstar, based on advanced measurements, analyses, and modeling. The aim of this approach is to shape the guitar body to provide a clear, powerful, and resonant sound.

Rather than being merely an aesthetic decision, the Revstar body shape is designed with the instrument's response in mind. The construction, internal chambers, and choice of materials all influence tone, sustain, dynamics, and playability.

Chambered body for better tone and comfort

All new Revstar models feature a chambered body, developed using Yamaha's Acoustic Design process. The chambers help shape the tonal character, reduce the weight of the instrument, and improve balance while playing.

Due to this construction, the Revstar offers a full, open, and responsive sound while remaining comfortable even during extended playing. This is an important advantage for guitarists who practice, record, or perform a lot.

Choose your sound

Revstar Professional and Revstar Standard models are available with two different pickup configurations: powerful humbuckers or P90-style single-coil pickups. Both options use Yamaha's custom-designed Alnico V pickup magnets, which provide a strong, pronounced, and musically useful tone.

Humbucker models are excellent for a thicker, stronger, and more compressed sound, suitable for rock, blues, alternative, and modern genres. P90-style models offer a more open, clear, and dynamic character, which works great for players seeking more definition, attack, and a vintage feel.

5-way switch – more sounds from two pickups

Revstar Professional and Standard models use a 5-way switch that adds a wider range of sounds to the two pickups. Yamaha describes this as the guitar's versatility with three pickups, even though the instrument has only two.

Positions 2 and 4 create a subtle phase shift, offering a fresh take on classic "in-between" sounds. This means more colors, more usable combinations, and more creative freedom without added complexity.

Focus Switch and Dry Switch

Revstar Professional and Standard models feature a Focus Switch, activated by a push/pull Tone control. This is a passive boost that creates an effect similar to stronger wound pickups: darker highs, emphasized mids and lows, and a more aggressive character.

Revstar Element uses a Dry Switch, also via the push/pull Tone control. This acts as a high-pass filter and allows for brighter tones without additional noise or loss of output power, which is often associated with traditional coil-split systems.

Revstar Professional – the top of the line

Revstar Professional represents the highest tier of the new Revstar series. It is made in Japan to the highest Yamaha standards and is intended for players who want the best craftsmanship, premium materials, and maximum tonal responsiveness.

Professional models feature a chambered body, carbon reinforcements in the body and neck, 5-way switching, Focus Switch, and custom-designed Alnico V pickup magnets. Additionally, Yamaha uses I.R.A. processing in these models, which helps the instrument offer a more open, 'played-in' feel and sound right from the start.

Revstar Standard – versatile choice

Revstar Standard is designed as the mid-range model, combining advanced features, excellent playability, and wide tonal versatility. It offers two pickup configurations, 5-way switching, and Focus Switch, making it suitable for a variety of playing styles.

Standard models have a chambered body made of maple and mahogany, a carbon-reinforced 3-piece mahogany neck, and come with a deluxe bag. They are an excellent choice for guitarists who want a professional feel, a wide range of sound options, and recognizable Revstar style at a more accessible price than the Professional line.

Revstar Element – essence of tone

Revstar Element is the most direct and minimalist line in the series. It is inspired by Japanese minimalism and focuses on the essentials: powerful tone, practical versatility, comfortable playability, and striking color finishes.

Element models feature a chambered mahogany body, mahogany neck, two Alnico V humbuckers, and a Dry Switch high-pass filter. This makes them excellent for players who want a reliable, modern, and characterful electric guitar without unnecessary complexity.
