Description
Yamaha APX Series – created for the stage
Yamaha APX Series is one of the most recognizable series of electro-acoustic guitars from Yamaha. The series' story dates back to 1987 when Yamaha developed an acoustic guitar that was designed from the start for stage use – comfortable, easy to amplify, and more resistant to feedback issues at higher volumes.
The main feature of the APX series is its characteristic thin or thinline body with a cutaway.. Due to the reduced body depth, the guitar sits comfortably against the body, while the cutaway allows easy access to higher frets. This is why the APX is particularly popular among musicians who are used to the feel of an electric guitar and want similar comfort in an electro-acoustic instrument.
The specially shaped internal X-type bracing construction helps increase the resonance of the thin body and provides a full and natural tone. Newer models also have a slightly deeper body, which improves the response of low frequencies and increases the acoustic volume of the instrument.
A recognizable element of the series is also the characteristic oval sound hole, which is not just a design element. Yamaha designed it to enhance the lower mid frequencies and provide a more open and defined lower register.
APX guitars are designed primarily with performance in mind. Different models use different Yamaha pickup systems. The models APX600 and APX600FM utilize a piezo system, where individual elements under the strings provide a clear signal, wide frequency response, and good dynamics. Higher models in the series use more advanced Yamaha ART or SRT systems.

SYSTEM65 + SRT Piezo Pickup
For stage use, the APX600FM is equipped with Yamaha SYSTEM65 electronics and SRT piezo pickup.. The pickup uses individual elements for each string, ensuring a clear signal, good dynamics, and accurate tonal response.
The built-in preamp allows control over:
- Volume
- Bass
- Middle
- Treble
- adjustable mid frequency – Mid FQ
- built-in chromatic tuner
This allows the sound to be quickly adjusted to the amplification, space, or the overall mix of the band.
